The King's Sentence
Apr 6, 2014 • Allen Coleman • Mark
Through the sentencing of Jesus we see his authority, humility, responsibility, sovereignty, and purity displayed. Pilate’s questioning of Jesus serves to show us that he is fully God (authority), he is fully man (humility), he makes a choice (responsibility), he saves (sovereignty), and that there is none but him (purity). The Gospel communicates that Jesus is all of these, but ultimately it is only by him, of him, and through him, that we are in right standing with God. Solus Christus: In Christ alone.
Pilate declared him guilty, yet Christ chose to lay down his life for the sinners (everyone) yelling “Crucify Him.”
