Assurance In The Glad Joy Of God
Though Zephania's specific context was to a rebellious Judah, it contains one of the Bible's strongest assurances of God's triumphant love over us. His warning to repent from our sins and idolatry because of the Father's fiercly jealous love AND his reminder that the same God redeems us through Jesus are still pivotal themes in our understanding of the gospel. "Zephaniah’s prophecy is rich in the grace of God that ultimately climaxes with the coming of Jesus and the preaching of the gospel.”
There are areas in all of our lives where we struggle to believe in God’s graciousness. But the promises in Zephaniah 3:9-20 remind us that God is relentless in his love for us. We talked about the 4 G’s on Sunday morning. I’d encourage to you to print this out, make a note on your smart phone, or just memorize these to remind yourself often of his love for you.
The 4 G’s:
GOD IS GREAT – so we don’t have to be in control.
GOD IS GLORIOUS – so we don’t have to fear others.
GOD IS GOOD – so we don’t have to look elsewhere.
GOD IS GRACIOUS – so we don’t have to prove ourselves.
