Joel Maginnis: Lead Deacon of Theology & Practice

I am so very pleased to announce the appointment of Joel Maginnis to the office of Lead Deacon of Theology & Practice. Joel has been at Anthem since 2013. During that time, Joel has served in numerous areas of the church, most notably, as one of our Deacons of Student Ministry. While Joel will continue to serve in Student Ministry, this new office will allow him to use his particular gifting in way conducive to both his growth and our benefit.
I have to say, this appointment is particularly special for me. It cannot often be said of younger men that they are willing to serve in less prominent roles while they develop in maturity and stature. Save to mention acknowledging their need to do so. This is especially true when one is such a gifted Bible teacher, as Joel has demonstrated. And finally, much less, willing to do so for nearly eight years!
As Lead Deacon of Theology & Practice it will be his responsibility to assist the Pastor of Preaching & Vision (that's me) in ensuring the doctrine espoused and the practice encouraged within our discipleship ministries are in keeping with the church's statement of faith and theological distinctives. He will do so by:
This is not a paid staff role.
Please join me in congratulating and praying for Joel in his new role. As he is already a deacon, no commissioning ceremony will be forthcoming. Just a hearty pat on the back... 😉

- Presiding over the initial stages of all doctrinal disputes between deacons and those involved in the ministries they serve (should they arise).
- Produce content (written, video or audio), when necessary and directed to do so, for the edification of the church. This includes, but is not limited to: position papers, church statements, articles and curriculum.
- Teach, when necessary, in venues and contexts where he has been asked to do so by other deacons or at the direction of the elders.

Congratulations Joel!
Joel has shown himself to be a faithful student of God’s word for many years. As a long term friend, I have been a beneficiary and cheerleader of Joel’s continued growth. I trust that God will use him in this role to bring great glory to Jesus Christ and joy to Anthem.
Congratulations bro
This is great news Joel. Our church is even better now.
