Topic: Serving Scripture: Acts 6:1–6:7
At the start of Acts 6, we see the ministry need of the early church growing too great for just the apostles to handle. To aid them in meeting these needs, the apostles set apart qualified, trustworthy, and godly men to attend to these tasks in a faithful manner; these men are likely the first deacons of the church. As we spend time studying and discussing the office of deacon, we learn not only about God’s desire for the church to be served well, but we examine also the true heart of service: Christ came and served us first with love, so we respond through repentance, faith, and service in his name and for his glory.
