Make Jesus Known
Topic: Salvation Scripture: Acts 4:1–4:12
After Peter’s sermon regarding the healing of the lame beggar, the Sadducees respond by imprisoning Peter and John and then questioning them: how did this happen? Peter articulates, yet again, it is through Jesus alone that such things are done, and that “there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” The Sadducees, eventually finding no fault in these men, release them, but their reactions to the words and deeds of the disciples remind us of some key dimensions of the gospel. The gospel is to be public, demonstrated and explained so that all may be saved. It is pricey, requiring from us a life fully dedicated to Christ, which brings him honor and glory. Finally, the gospel is particular – there is only one name, Jesus Christ, that truly saves, reconciles, and offers new life.
