The Motion Of Our Devotion
Topic: Church/Community Scripture: Acts 2:42–2:47
In spite of our best efforts to be faithful to the biblical portrayal of the body of Christ, many churches find themselves on one side of a perceived spectrum. Some churches are very inwardly focused, creating followers with depth of knowledge but a devastating lack of awareness of life beyond church walls, while others go all in on service, justice, and love towards the community and the world to the detriment of equipping the saints for the work of ministry. The solution to the swinging is not a both/and approach, but an entirely new focus. As we fully devote ourselves to God, remembering him through scripture, fellowship, sacrament, and prayer, we knit ourselves to him in every way. In so doing, the lives we lead more fully demonstrate his desires, and the church purposed to worship God, edify people, and evangelize the world becomes more completely formed.
