This is a continuation of our wildly popular first series on the topic. Hymns are a compact way of teaching theology. Christians find themselves recalling familiar words and tunes throughout their lives because they have they can communicate the truths of Scripture so well. It is important that we understand the importance of theological expression through music. Help them see the depth of a hymn like, “For All the Saints,†or another one listed below. In light of this, we have to lean against the “arrogance of the modern.†Much of worship music in the church today centers on the believer, rather than the Creator. Many of hymns are important in unifying corporate worship by placing God at the center. We are people who are connected with brothers and sisters from the history of our faith, and we should not ignore that. During this mini-series, we will examine both the hymns, and their respenctive writers, in hopes of reigniting an appreciatiion for the deep, rich, theological expression of the hymns of the faith.
