Ecclesiastes deals with subject matter that most Christians prefer not to talk about. It does not commend to us to what "should be", instead it grapples with how things "really are". It recognizes that our lives are not that tidy and the Gospel is not a template. Ecclesiastes is the Bible's answer to trite formulas and cliché catch-phrases used to bypass real answers to hard questions nagging us. Instead, Ecclesiastes interrogates the world and our experiences and gives voice to true human angst.
